In her work, created exclusively for Carbono Galeria, Sandra Gamarra appropriates newspapers published during a week in Brazil, Peru and Chile and creates a triptych with their pages. Through this media clipping, she refers to cases of corruption and intervenes, through painting, with cynical and humorous situations to criticize the politics of the three countries.

The first newspaper shows Dilma Rousseff – the current president of the country – the second, Ollanta Humala – the current president of Peru and leader of the Peruvian Nationalist Party – and the last, Michelle Bachelet – the current president of the Republic of Chile. The three political images are presented without clothes, symbolizing the demoralization and lack of credibility of each politician towards his country.

The prints are framed in acrylic boxes.

Sandra Gamarra

b. 1972, Lima, Peru | Lives and works in Madrid and Lima.

The Peruvian conceptual artist works with painting, collage, sculpture and video to question the value of replicas and the glorification of the authentic. She works by appropriating existing objects to create new works.
