In his first solo exhibition, which was exhibited at Galeria Virgilio in August 2015, Jimson constructs situations where there is no linearity, sequence, narrative or place.

Installations, objects and two-dimensional works are the main media used by Jimson Vilela. In "Architecture Class No. 1", the supporting points of the work are books, an object that has been the main agent for the artist's production in recent years. The book, being an extension of thought and imagination, is blank and follows a non-linear path, personifying and materializing the mind itself.

Jimson Vilela

PhD in Visual Poetics (ECA/USP, 2020), Master in Visual Poetics (ECA/USP, 2015) and Bachelor in Visual Arts (IART/UERJ, 2010).

He has been working as a visual artist since 2008, and his main exhibitions include the solo exhibitions "Adaptable to the space that words occupy" (São Paulo Cultural Center, 2015), "Symptoms and Side Effects of Tuning" (Casa Modernista, 2013) and "Change" (Nuevo Museo Energía Arte Contemporáneo, 2012) and; the group exhibitions "Retrospective - 25 years of the CCSP Exhibition Program" (São Paulo Cultural Center, 2015), "Invitation to travel" (Rumos Itaú Cultural, 2012 and 2013), and "6th and 7th International Biennial of Bolivia" (SIART, 2009 and 2011).

His works are in public collections such as MAC Niterói, MAM-RJ and Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo.

In Brazil, he was awarded the Funarte Grant to Stimulate Production in Visual Arts (2012), the Honor Award for Art and Heritage from IPHAN/Centro Cultural Paço Imperial/MinC (2013), the Marcantonio Vilaça Visual Arts Award - 6th Edition (2013), the São Paulo Cultural Center Acquisition Award (2014), the ProAC Visual Arts Award of the State of São Paulo (2014 and 2017) and the Young Artists Incentive Award from the 22nd Cultura Inglesa Festival (2018).

According to Felipe Scovino, “In a world ruled by excess, Jimson Vilela’s work runs counter to this fact. Even when it invests in a kind of swelling (as in Névoa, 2012-13), the artist resorts to a repertoire that is characterized by softness and delicacy. Two threads seem to weave the exhibition simultaneously: a process of disappearance or invisibility of the image and another of a blindness that slowly announces itself.”
