""Plaquinha #" is a series of paintings on plates molded in epoxy resin. The silhouette of each object resembles that of the plaques widely used in the vernacular decoration of kitchens and bathrooms - to indicate the position of the salt or, perhaps, to communicate a humorous and encouraging phrase. These paintings, although not devoid of humor, do not state anything - they float, highlighted by the mass of oil paint, like open signs, schematic landscapes or invented hierograms. They are things and surfaces, objects of tactile visuality."

Biography

Ana Prata - Carbono Galeria

Ana Prata

b. 1980, Sete Lagoas (MG), Brazil | Lives and works in São Paulo (SP), Brazil.

The importance of desire in Ana Prata's pictorial production should not be underestimated. Before being presented to someone else, each support, color, line and material is desired by the artist - whether for its visual qualities or for its haptic attributes. After all, she is the first to handle and enjoy the substance of her works, in processes that privilege the compositional dynamics of disparate elements - and not the discursive narratives of this or that image.

Graduated in Fine Arts from the University of São Paulo, Ana Prata was one of the nominees for the 2017 Pipa Prize. The artist has held solo exhibitions at the São Paulo Cultural Center, Brazil (2009), Tomie Ohtake Institute, São Paulo, Brazil (2012), La Maudite, Paris, France (2015), Kubik Gallery, Porto, Portugal (2015), Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London, United Kingdom, at the Millan Gallery, São Paulo, Brazil (2017), at Hong Kong Art Basel, China (2018), at the Mario de Andrade Library, São Paulo, Brazil (2018), among others.

Group exhibitions include “The Designs of Contemporary Art in Brazil”, MAC-USP (São Paulo, Brazil) and “The Light that Veils the Body is the Same that Reveals the Screen”, Caixa Cultural (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in 2017; “The Spirit of Each Age”, at the Figueiredo Ferraz Institute, 2015; International Festival of Contemporary Art SESC_Videobrasil (São Paulo, SP), 2011 and 2013, “The First Ten Years”, at the Tomie Ohtake Institute (São Paulo), 2011, “Lugar Nenhum”, Instituto Moreira Salles (Rio de Janeiro, RJ), 2013. In 2011, he participated in the Red Bull House of Art artistic residency, in São Paulo, and in 2016, in the Residency Unlimited, in New York.
