The work, made exclusively for Carbono Galeria, consists of a photo of an intervention carried out in the 80s, in Plaza de la Revolución , in Havana, Cuba.

Lotty changes the direction of the curb on the asphalt and superimposes two white lines, forming a “+” on the pavement. This act deconstructs the nature of the hegemonic power – the United States over Cuba. Furthermore, the intention is to make the passerby critically remodel the format that is imposed on him every day by a power above him. The symbol becomes a “critical weapon”.

Biography

Lotty Rosenfeld - Carbono Galeria

Lotty Rosenfeld

n. 1943, Santiago, Chile | m. 2020, Santiago, Chile.

Lotty Rosenfeld belonged to the neo-avant-garde movement of artists and writers "Escena de Avanzada", which emerged as a result of the coup d'état of September 11, 1973. In addition, she participated in the artistic group CADA ("Colectivo de acciones de arte"), related to visual arts and literature.

Since joining the movement, the artist has been making interventions in urban spaces, initially only in Chile and then around the world. She uses video, photography and performances as her main means of expression.

In her videos and installations, the artist shows scenes and incorporates the sounds of the environment into her work. The chaos and discomfort of the unplanned sounds override the discourses that have been made, with the intention of symbolizing other versions of the dominant discourse.

He participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions during his career, including: the XII Documenta in Kassel, III Cali Biennial, III San Juan Biennial, IV Istanbul Biennial, V Shanghai Biennial, and the exhibitions "Frammenti d'Arte Contemporanea" at the Palazzo Valentini in Rome; "Cartografías del Deseo" at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Spain, among others.
