Regina Giménez explores an iconography based on the graphic design and marketing techniques of a post-industrial world. Her paintings evoke the graphic and industrial design of Germany and Russia from the interwar years, using elements of the International Style to create abstract compositions.

With backdrops covered in rich textures and gestural brushstrokes, Regina Giménez’s main elements are collages applied to the pictorial and emotive canvas, giving the compositions their characteristic relief. These are urban, almost utopian scenes that represent a more innocent world, where the power of consumerism and industrialization is viewed with benevolent eyes. The work, however, does not fall back on a postmodern nostalgia, but instead invites the viewer to enter the architectural space that is created by the broad layers of color and dense texture that inform the work, while at the same time forcing us to reflect on the powerful irony that inspires these paintings.

Giménez has had solo exhibitions in galleries in Germany, Barcelona, Madrid, France and Belgium. She has won several prestigious awards and has exhibited annually at the Madrid International Art Fair, ARCO, since 1997. Her work is part of the collections of important institutions such as the Museu D'Art Modern de Tarragona (Tarragona), Fundación Carmen & Lluís Bassat (Barcelona), Fundación Coprime (Paris) and Colección Testimoni, La Caixa (Barcelona).
