"Loop" is a multiple developed from an intense and long research where ceramics are seen in an unprecedented way in Ana Holck's sculptures. Stainless steel and porcelain are used as elements that complement and give continuity to each other, expanding their fields throughout the space.

In this new series, we have the white mass, porcelain, which is also the most plastic clay. This material, unlike other prefabricated materials previously used by the artist (such as concrete blocks), was not industrialized. The porcelain is "passed" through the extruder, from where it comes out in tubes of pre-established and regular sizes, which are then manipulated.

By lowering the extruder lever, mechanically and repeatedly, using impersonal force, without the touch of hands, the porcelain mass turns into a tube, a hollow and hollow mass. Cut at any point, these tubes can be fitted, assembled, overlapped, creating designs. Previously fragile, the porcelain is now tested by the force of the stainless steel ribbon spring, which runs through and tensions the ceramic tube. A design then follows in space where a single metal ribbon runs through the tubes, soaring through space, in a kind of incessant and continuous loop.

Biography

Ana Holck

b. 1977, Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brazil | Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brazil.

Ana Holck uses sculptures, installations and photographs to explore space and the issues that permeate it. Concrete, metal and vinyl are some of the materials frequently used in Holck's work, which, based on architectural thinking, creates works that reflect on form and visual experience at the same time. With operations that remove precast and industrial parts from their utilitarian context, the artist also proposes a reflection on functionality, opening up new sculptural possibilities for these elements.

Among his main exhibitions are “Behind the Scenes”, Banco do Brasil Cultural Center, “Somewhere”, SESC Pinheiros (2010), “Friends of Engraving”, Chácara do Céu Museum, Rio de Janeiro, “Notes on Works”, Mercedes Viegas Contemporary Art and Virgilio Gallery (2006); “Construction Site”, Paço das Artes (2006); “Elevated”, Paço Imperial (2005); and “Block”, Mariantonia University Center (2004).

He participated in the group shows “AGORA” simultaneous instantaneous, at Santander Cultural Porto Alegre (2011), "Lost in lace", at the Birmingham Museum of Art (2011); "Nova Escultura Brasileira" at Caixa Cultural in Rio de Janeiro (2011); “Trilhas do Desejo”, Rumos Itaú Cultural (2009); “Borderless Generation”, Korea Foundation, Seoul (2009); and “Nova Arte Nova”, CCBB (2008).

He received the Itamaraty Contemporary Art Award (2011) and the Funarte Marcantonio Vilaça Visual Arts Award (2009), among others. His works are in the collections of Itaú Cultural; MAM São Paulo, MAM Rio de Janeiro (col. Gilberto Chateaubriand); MAC-Niterói and Pinacoteca de São Paulo.
