Brígida Baltar transforms experiences lived in her own body into metaphors with the work " O hematoma #1". The artist underwent a bone marrow transplant in 2015 and the treatment process and the resulting transformations in her body become poetry when materialized in embroidery.

The time of embroidery is directly linked to the time of waiting that the artist experienced in this process. The result is abstractions, organic geometries and purple and reddish blood colors.

Biography

Brígida Baltar - Carbono Galeria

Brigida Baltar

b. 1959, Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brazil | d. 2022, Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brazil.

Brígida began her work in the 1990s with intimate actions that reflected the mixture of her experiences with a fictional atmosphere. The landscape was part of some performances such as Coletas (1994-2004), where the artist used small glass jars to collect fog and other transient substances from nature. In "Maria Farinha Ghost Crab" (2004) and "Casa de Abelha" (2002), both the landscape and the sound are part of the projects. Brígida Baltar's photos, actions and films take us to nature and the body: it is from there that Brígida draws the meaning of her work. Nature as a fable. The body as research material. Her intimate space, her home and structural materials, mainly bricks, have always been part of her works in the form of drawings, sculptures and installations. From her experiments with bricks and drawings with brick dust, Brígida Baltar has become increasingly interested in handmade works, porcelain sculptures, bronze, drawings and, more recently, embroidery.

Brígida studied at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, where she currently teaches and has received the Rioarte (1994) and Conexões Artes Visuais Funarte (2010) awards, and was selected for the Rio de Janeiro State Government and State Secretariat of Culture (2011) public notice.
