His artistic research is internationally recognized for his socio-politically engaged sculptures, in which he uses neon, fluorescent and incandescent lights. His work explores optical illusions, infinite reflections and false chasms, reinventing everyday objects to provoke social and political reflections. He studied at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in the 1990s, where he came into contact with influential professors such as Eduardo Vilches, Eugenio Dittborn and Justo Pastor Mellado. In 1997, he moved to New York, where he deepened his artistic research and consolidated his distinctive style.
His major solo exhibitions include “Threshold” (2009), at the Chilean Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale; “Nowhere Man” (2009), at the Towner Contemporary Art Museum, Eastbourne, UK, and at Galerie Daniel Templon, Paris; and “ExFinito” (2021), at Farol Santander, São Paulo, Brazil, his first major solo exhibition in the country, featuring 14 previously unseen works produced locally. Guggenheim Museum, New York; “Light Show” (2013), at the Hayward Gallery, London; and the Prospect.2 Biennial (2011), in New Orleans.
