The series for Carbono Galeria is directly linked to Rebecca Sharp's paintings. The staff symbolizes the conscious witness within an environment,
a being with purpose, a will of its own and work to do.

The smaller rods spread rapidly through the cosmos and the air, in all directions, like a swarm of bees or spores of
mushrooms. They have a fast and focused nature. Their mission can come to light within the sensory universe of the human who has it.

The multiple is derived from the 7th edition of the Caixa de Pandora project, conceived by KURA by Camila Yunes. Learn more about the project here.

Biography

Rebecca Sharp - Carbono Galeria

Rebecca Sharp

b. 1976, São Paulo (SP), Brazil | Lives and works between Brazil and the USA.

In her poetic-spiritual process, she combines pictorial and meditative practices. Her work deals with a variety of astral and mundane planes and, currently, their encounter: unusual worlds covered by abysses in vivid hues that coexist in a vibrant way. The canvases function as coded messages, coming from her psychic space. Her delicate surreal compositions emerge almost instinctively once the initial theme is revealed. According to Rebecca, "what I realize today is that the artist's work consists of creating and intervening in invisible universes. Long before the painting is finished, the creation and dissolution of a galaxy has already happened. The work itself is the condensed, visible and tactile mantra of that which cannot be explained. It is a logbook, an earthly document, an ignition key."

Rebecca graduated in theater and dramatic arts from Goldsmiths, University of London. In 2018, she participated in the 33rd edition of the São Paulo Biennial, “Affinidades Afetivas”, in the curatorship of Sofia Borges. In 2019, she was in residency at the renowned California Institute of the Arts. In 2021, she had the solo exhibition “Tools for the Wonderland” (Mendes Woods, Brussels) and, in 2020, she had her first solo exhibition, “Trago a mensagem do destino”, at Sé Galeria, curated by Tiago de Abreu Pinto.
