In “Small Glasses for Ernst Lanzer,” the artist positions two glasses, at different scales, facing each other, thus increasing the magnification of the closest object. Two reading glasses whose joined arms remind us of the tuning fork of sound instruments. We can see in Schipper’s works a repetition of shapes and signs. The reference to Ernst Lanzer, a famous patient of Freud with obsessive-compulsive disorder, happened because his story, while enchanting the artist, confirmed many of his researches on objects, such as glasses, coins and stones.
