""Plug use" is a hybrid. It has the scale of a bank; its material is the bare foam that sometimes gives substance to mattresses and sofas; its typology is that of a barrel, duplicated; in one volume it has a compartment similar to that of a trash can and, in the other, a piece that refers to glasses or bottle holders; the jute that wraps the set was sewn with the care usually reserved for clothing items. The faded colors of the set will become - over time - more and more yellowish and the eventual use of the piece among other furniture can make it more and less absurd, simultaneously."

Biography

Janina McQuoid - Carbono Galeria

Janina McQuoid

b. 1989, Sao Paulo (SP), Brazil | Lives and works in Sao Paulo (SP), Brazil.

Janina McQuoid’s work is essentially a sum of linguistic improvisations. To achieve this, she needs to suspend the functional use of words, signs and materials and combine them in arbitrary constructions, almost as if she did not know the original meaning of the terms she uses. This abrupt displacement of meanings, in turn, results in attractive synesthetic artifacts.

Graduated in visual and critical studies, School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2008-12), emphasis on fine arts, theory and practice.

She participated in the following group exhibitions: "Arte Londrina 1 and 2", Londrina State University - House of Culture (Paraná, 2013 and 2014); "III Itamaraty Contemporary Art Competition", Itamaraty Palace (Brasília, 2014); "La Usurpadora", Abrazo Interno Gallery (New York, 2014); "Correspondences: Janina McQuoid and Leonardo Stroka", Epicentro Cultural (São Paulo, 2014); "2015 Exhibition Program", Ribeirão Preto Art Museum (São Paulo, 2015).
