Self-portraiture is present in the work of Pernambuco-born artist Carlos Mélo, in media such as drawing, photography, video, performance, and installation.
In this work, Mélo evades, hides, dissolves into the scene and its surroundings. The artist's face does not appear, as often happens in his works, but it is without the portrait of the face that he allows the body to surrender to the world.
The work belongs to the " Sensory Experience Project" series. Performed in Sintra, Portugal. The artist wears a hat he created himself, to which beads have been added to form a fringe. When submerged, it creates a link between the artist and the water and brings a reflection on Narcissus, the mythological character in love with his own image, and on the Orishas, African ancestors.
