Self-portraits are present in the production of the artist from Pernambuco, Carlos Mélo, in media such as drawing, photography, video, performance and installation.
In this work, Mélo evades, hides, and dissolves into the scene and his surroundings. The artist's face does not appear, as is often the case in his works, but it is without the portrait of the face that he allows the body to surrender to the world.
The work belongs to the series " Sensitive Experience Project" held in Sintra, Portugal. The artist wears a cap he created himself, to which beads were added to form a fringe. The cap, submerged, creates a link between the artist and the water and brings a reflection on Narcissus, a mythological character in love with his own image, and on the Orixás, African ancestors.
