The tattoos are part of Mariana Palma's recent research into the medium of her artwork. The chosen images, derived from her watercolor work, evoke an intimate body that carries both strength and delicacy.
In her paintings, the compositions of fabrics, often inspired by dance or theater positions, have veiled bodies highlighting different textures and movements. This same absent body now consolidates itself as a support, becoming clothing, inverting the logic of the permanence of the art object and inviting us to experiment.
The tattoo photographs were developed in collaboration with Cássia Tabatini (photographer, editor and director of Fort Magazine).

Mariana Palma
Mariana Palma creates unique pictorial spaces, constructed by the juxtaposition of elements from distant families. In the large canvases of saturated colors, tiles coexist with foliage, drains with anemones, theater curtains with flowers, printed, draped and frayed fabrics. In the watercolors and photographs, natural and artificial elements create unlikely hybrids. The result is unexpectedly harmonious and enigmatic compositions that, while causing a certain strangeness, invite the viewer to take time to observe. Contemplation reveals genetic clues. The grandeur, the drama, the emotional exuberance, the vitality, the construction of movement, the use of contrasting textures and luxurious materials reveal a dialogue with Baroque painting from the 16th and 17th centuries, evoking reflections on sensuality, the ephemerality of beauty, and the bombardment of images of today. The use of pure colors is reminiscent of Flemish painters, while the subtle perspective effects suggest the mastery of the Renaissance lesson (and its subversion). The artist uses the assumptions of the pictorial tradition to address her concerns. The references filter the emotional repertoire and generate a work in which the apparent overflow of elements follows, at bottom, a precise organization.
She graduated in Fine Arts from the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation - FAAP in 2001, and in 2006 was awarded the Casa do Olhar Acquisition Prize, Santo André, in 2005 with the Ribeirão Preto Art Museum Acquisition Prize, and in 2003 with the Campinas Museum of Contemporary Art Acquisition Prize and the SESC Ribeirão Preto Individual Exhibition Prize.
