Arnaldo Antunes - Carbono Galeria

Arnaldo Antunes

b. 1960, São Paulo (SP), Brazil | Lives and works in São Paulo (SP), Brazil.

Brazilian musician, poet, composer, DJ, former VJ and visual artist. He was a member of the group Titãs from 1982 to 1992. In a solo career since 1992, he has released 14 albums.

He has published several books in Brazil, including "Psia" (Ed. Express.o, 1986; Ed. Iluminuras, 1991), "Tudos" (Ed. Iluminuras, 1990), "As Coisas" (Ed. Iluminuras, 1992, Jabuti Poetry Prize), "2 Ou + Corpos no Mesmo Espaço" (Ed. Perspectiva, 1997), "ET Eu Tu" (with images by Marcia Xavier, Cosac Naify, 2003, Jabuti Graphic Design Prize), "Agora Aqui Ninguém Precisa de Si" (Ed. Cia das Letras, 2015, Jabuti Poetry Prize), and anthologies in Portugal, Spain, Argentina and Uruguay. 

He has participated in several art and visual poetry exhibitions, including "Transfutur, Visuelle Poesie" (Kassel, Germany, 1990); "p0es1e, Digitale Dichtkunst" (Munich, Germany, 1992); "Dentro Brasil" (Long Beach Museum of Art, California, United States, 1995); "VI Havana Biennial" (Cuba, 1997); "XXIV São Paulo Biennial" (São Paulo, 1998); "II Mercosul Visual Arts Biennial" (Porto Alegre, 1999) and “Post-Modern Brazilianness” (CCBB Rio de Janeiro, 2021 and São Paulo, 2022).

He has held, among others, the solo exhibitions "Word Disorder" (installation at the Labirintho Space, Porto, Portugal, 2001); "Brain Sex" (Portinari Gallery, Brazilian Studies Center Foundation, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2002); "Handwriting, calligraphy" (Maria Antônia University Center, São Paulo, 2003); "Word Image" (Bolsa de Arte Gallery, Porto Alegre, 2005); "Arnaldo Antunes" (Laura Marsiaj Gallery, Rio de Janeiro, 2008); "Reading Seeing Moving" (Paço da Liberdade, Sesc-pr, Curitiba, 2009); "O Interno Exterior" (2014) and "Palavra em Movimento" (2015/16), an exhibition that brings together 35 years of his visual production, which toured São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Brasília, Florianópolis and Fortaleza and won the APCA award for Best Graphic Arts Exhibition in 2015.
