A inscrição ganha maior destaque com a incidência de luz frontal, que projeta sua sombra na parede. Nesse deslocamento, a obra se constrói na tensão entre transparência e sombra, onde ver e não ver passam a coexistir.

Na trajetória de Jaar, a visibilidade é um eixo central, frequentemente abordado por meio de estratégias indiretas e sutis. Ao lidar com o que não se impõe de imediato, sua prática evidencia tanto os limites da percepção quanto as condições que determinam o que pode ser visto.

Alfredo Jaar

b. 1956, Santiago, Chile | Lives and works in New York, USA.

Chilean artist based in New York, Alfredo Jaar uses photography, installation, filming and performance to explore issues such as genocide, epidemic crises, political and financial crises, etc.

His work emphasizes the imbalance of power between developed and underdeveloped countries. One of his major works is A Logo for America, presented by the artist in 1987 and 2014, which questions the monopolization of power by the United States in the rest of the world.

His work has been exhibited at the Biennales of Venice (1986, 2007, 2009, 2013), São Paulo (1985, 1987, 2010), Sydney (1990), Istanbul (1995) and Kassel (1987, 2002). He has made over 60 public interventions – sculptures and performances – around the world. Among his most recent exhibitions are: "Alfredo Jaar: (Kindness) of (Strangers)", Galerie Thomas Schulte in Berlin; "Nous l'avons tant aimée, la revolution", [MAC] Musée d'Art Contemporain in Marseille; "Alfredo Jaar: Gold in the Morning" at Galeria Luisa Strina in São Paulo and "Alfredo Jaar: Shadows" at Galerie Lelong in New York.

His work is in important institutional collections, such as: Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Guggenheim, in New York; the MCA in Chicago; MOCA and LACMA in Los Angeles; Tate Gallery in London; the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris; among others.
