The work "Untitled" was made especially for Carbono and is a reconstruction of elements taken from the artist's memories and childhood in war-torn Lebanon.

Elements from the private sphere, some linked to religion (spinning tops, manuscripts, etc.) and others such as the coffee cup and the rug, are mixed with external elements such as the cover of the Iranian passport with which the artist immigrated, the stamps on the wall and the entry document into Brazil in the frame.

This set forms an open narrative within a space whose nature is between a piece of furniture and a room.

Biography

Camille Kachani - Carbono Galeria

Camille Kachani

b. 1963, Beirut, Lebanon | Lives and works in São Paulo (SP), Brazil.

Camille Kachani's work combines photography, collage and sculpture to talk about concepts such as identity and belonging, based on autobiographical references, and how these are formed through the acquisition of culture, that is, how identity is constructed/dissolved, in an eternal movement.

This movement is also based on the media culture of stimuli, mainly visual, which are received exhaustively in everyday life. The bombardment of information begins to impose a kind of selective capture on the individual, giving up contemplation. In the Invisibles series, the artist presents objects that are recurrent in everyday life and are not “processed” by the eyes of the citizen in transit. Used cars, beer crates and traffic cones are given a different covering, such as plush, or a more striking color. The result is an approximation of this forgotten object.

Kachani produces in thematic series and faithfully commits to a production period based on this series. The use of different materials makes it possible to move on to a new series that delights you.

“They are designs designed by a belief freed from autonomy, or from constructivist dogmas. The industrial, the structural and the functional are completely covered by fiction, by the effect.” Marcelo Campos.

The artist has works in the collections of the main museums in Brazil. Among the main exhibitions are: MAC SP; TRIO International Biennial of the Tridemensional/ Rio de Janeiro (2015); Anna Maria Niemeyer: a path, Paço Imperial/RJ (2013); Reflected Mirror, CC Helio Oiticica, RJ (2012); MAM/RJ (2010); MAC/PR, Paço das Artes/ SP (2008), XIV Biennale Internationale de Nancy, France (2006), MoLAA, USA (2004).
