A member of the Ye'pamahsã people, known as Tukano, of the Üremirin Sararó Clan – Patrilineal Homeland of the Ye'pamahsã people of the Amazon, Bu'u Kennedy is a visual artist and spiritual leader. His artistic production is based on marquetry, a technique of juxtaposing and fitting together sheets of different woods, which form landscapes, motifs and symbols, as is the case of “Yʉ'kʉ jeró ma'ã (path of the beetle)”, created for Carbono Galeria. In it, Bu'u develops graphics from the Tukano culture, revealing to us the potential of art in shaping knowledge about nature and ancestry. Beetles and their paths are considered powerful messengers of the universe, capable of transmitting teachings. Their spiritual presence gives meaning to messages and warnings, generally associated with prosperity.

Bu'ú Kennedy - Carbono Galeria

Bu'ú Kennedy

b. 1978, Alto Rio Negro (AM), Brazil | Lives and works in São Paulo (SP), Brazil.

Bu'ú Kennedy is a spiritual leader, visual artist, cultural speaker on the traditions of his people and president of the Ʉhtã Bo'ó Wi'í Institute, an initiative focused on the cultural and spiritual preservation of the Ye'pá Mahsã.

His origin is from the Upper Rio Negro region, in the municipality of São Gabriel da Cachoeira (AM), Upper Rio Tiquié. He belongs to the Ʉremirĩ Sararó Clan of the Ye'pá Mahsã (Tukano) people, and is a descendant of the Yaí'wá, known throughout the world as jaguar healers. Bu'ú is the grandson of specialists in this tradition and followed the same path, undergoing initiations to become a jaguar healer.

At the age of 22, he moved to Manaus (AM) and later to São Paulo (SP), where he currently lives. As a visual artist, his process in marquetry and painting is based on the representation of landscapes, graphics, motifs and symbols of his origin. Thus, he has held solo and collective exhibitions since 2007.

In addition to his educational and social contributions, his path in the arts expands to acting in plays, such as "Sapo Taro Bekê" (2006), as well as authorship in the plays "Tui-Sá Kumurõ" (2009), and "Ensinamento do Beija-Flor" (2010). Currently, he is co-author and director of the play “Ʉhpʉ - Corpo”, the result of the practices of ceremonies and rites that Bu'ú transformed into theater performance.
