Originally conceived as a painting, dated 1978, "LESSON IN SEMIOTICS" is a work that bears Almandrade's artistic and poetic identity. The economical use of colors, shapes and words based on a clever pun with multiple meanings are recurring characteristics in his works. In "LESSON IN SEMIOTICS", the artist semantically uses the two parts of the word, whose union is the essential basis for poetic ruptures. The simultaneous visual and sound concerns of the signifier, added to the verbal, of the signified, are directly related to the expanded poetry movements, such as Brazilian concrete poetry and its national developments in neoconcrete poetry and the process poem.
