Renata Tassinari's work is guided by chromatic language and the desire to inhabit the world with colors. The painting leaves the canvas and takes shape on different supports, from paper and wood to acrylic.

His paintings, drawings, photographs and reliefs, mostly abstract and with strong constructive influences, exercise the eye through striking contrasts, textures and combinations of different materials.

Contrasting the smooth, shiny surface of the polished acrylic with the texture of the acrylic paint that cuts the rectangle in half, while also enveloping it, the artist uses an intense chromatic range: yellow, turquoise and red are the colors that give the works their names, which are part of her most recent series of works, "Lanterns".

Renata Tassinari

b. 1958, São Paulo (SP), Brazil | Lives and works in São Paulo (SP), Brazil.

Tassinari was a student of Carlos Fajardo, José Resende and Dudi Maia Rosa, artists who greatly influenced her work. In the 1980s, she produced prints with indigenous motifs for Applied Native Art, which is where her fascination for the world of colors began.

The artist has several solo exhibitions in galleries in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo and has participated in group exhibitions in institutions such as MARP – Ribeirão Preto, MAM – Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and FUNARTE – Rio de Janeiro.

In 2015, Renata celebrated 30 years of her career with a retrospective at the Tomie Ohtake Institute, São Paulo. “Color and structure – paintings, drawings and collages by Renata Tassinari” brought together around 50 works, dated from 1980 to 2013.

Curated by Vanda Klabin, the São Paulo-born artist presented large-scale works and previously unseen drawings at the Paço Imperial in Rio de Janeiro in early 2016. The solo exhibition was a snapshot of the last ten years of the artist's career.
