What Ivan Grilo handles are collections and photographs. He is a "scrap collector of stories", investigating every little piece. All of this comes from a restlessness, from a natural curiosity. When he was little, Ivan wanted to be a carpenter, he would dismantle everything.
In 2016, he participated in the group show "The Color of Brazil" at the Rio Art Museum. That same year, he won the FOCO Bradesco ArtRio Award with the work "Second Study for the Bay of an Entire Sea", which is based on part of the history of the city of Rio de Janeiro, with the arrival of slaves at the Valongo pier, and the popular story of Chico Rei with the origin of congada. Non-linear narrative, where stories intersect, and the appropriation of other people's photos are recurring themes in Ivan's work. In 2015, he exhibited the solo show "I Want to See" at Casa Triângulo, and in 2014, he exhibited the solo show "When the Sky Falls" at the São Paulo Cultural Center, in addition to participating in the group shows: "New Acquisitions" from the Gilberto Chateaubriand Collection at the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art (MAM-SP), and "Pororoca, the Amazon" at the Rio Art Museum (MAR). In 2013, he exhibited "Study to Measure Forces" at Casa França-Brasil, as part of the "Cofre Project"; in addition to being awarded a prize in the PROAC Visual Arts program, from the Government of the State of São Paulo. And in 2012, he received the Funarte Marc Ferrez Photography Award.
Among his most recent solo exhibitions are "We Feel Blind", at Luciana Caravello Arte Contemporânea, "Almost/Collection", at the Museu da República, "Nobody", at Paço das Artes, "This is all I need to remember", at SESC Campinas and "When the sky falls", at CCSP, curated by Bernardo Mosqueira.
