Delson Uchôa's curiosity about the colorful umbrellas used by the population of the Northeast to protect themselves from the sun was transformed into a series called “Silkworm”. Through it, the artist researched the colors of the Northeast and created a character for this purpose, who constantly carries umbrellas in different colors and patterns. In the three “Silkworm Portrait” works, the character is presented with the colors green, yellow and red, and these colors are related to the colors of the architectural elements in the background. The images were taken in the high backlands of Alagoas, Povoado da Ilha do Ferro.

Biography

Delson Uchôa - Carbono Galeria

Delson Uchoa

b. 1956, Maceió (AL), Brazil | Lives and works in Maceió (AL), Brazil.

It's impossible not to be captivated by the colors in Delson Uchôa's paintings and photographs. The mixture of references to everyday life, the popular universe of various regions of Brazil, and even medicine creates works of strong visual impact. The artist has participated in important exhibitions such as the celebrated show "How are you? Generation 80" and others in institutions such as the Tomie Ohtake Institute (São Paulo), the Aloísio Magalhães Museum of Modern Art (Recife). His works are part of important collections such as those of the Museum of Fine Arts of Rio de Janeiro, the Gilberto Chateaubriand Museum (MAM-RJ), the João Sattamini Museum (MAC-Niterói), and the Aloísio Magalhães Museum of Modern Art (Recife).

With a vibrant palette and mural-scale artwork, Delson Uchôa's paintings feature geometric and abstract designs reminiscent of symbols. Forms that sometimes repeat patterns that resemble prints.

His creations make reference to fantastical universes, such as in "Atlantis" (1998), and popular ones like "All That Glitters Is Gold" (2000). Medicine is also present in his work, as can be seen in the works "Pericardium" (2010) and "Hemoglobin" (1990).

As the artist Jorge Guinle states: "Delson's body of work inevitably brings to the fore issues such as the archetype and the personal, the universal and the regional, the popular and the kitsch." (Source: Delson Uchôa's website )
