Biography

Ana Holck - Carbono Galeria

Ana Holck

b. 1977, Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brazil | Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brazil.

Ana Holck investigates space and the issues that permeate it through sculptures, installations, and photographs. Concrete, metal, and vinyl are some of the materials frequently used in Holck's work, which, based on an architectural perspective, develops pieces that reflect on form and visual experience simultaneously. By removing pre-cast and industrial parts from their utilitarian context, the artist also proposes a reflection on functionality, opening up new sculptural possibilities for these elements.

Among his main exhibitions are “Bastidor”, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, “Lugar Algum”, SESC Pinheiros (2010), “Os Amigos da Gravura”, Museu da Chácara do Céu, Rio de Janeiro, “Notas sobre Obras”, Mercedes Viegas Arte Contemporânea and Galeria Virgilio (2006); “Canteiro de Obras”, Paço das Artes (2006); “Elevados”, Paço Imperial (2005); and “Quarteirão”, Centro Universitário Mariantonia (2004).

She participated in the group exhibitions “AGORA” simultaneous instantaneous, at Santander Cultural Porto Alegre (2011), “Lost in lace”, at the Birmingham Museum of Art (2011); “Nova Escultura Brasileira” at Caixa Cultural in Rio de Janeiro (2011); “Trilhas do Desejo”, Rumos Itaú Cultural (2009); “Borderless Generation”, Korea Foundation, Seoul (2009); and “Nova Arte Nova”, CCBB (2008).

He received the Itamaraty Prize for Contemporary Art (2011) and the Funarte Marcantonio Vilaça Prize for Visual Arts (2009), among others. His works are in the collections of Itaú Cultural; MAM São Paulo, MAM Rio de Janeiro (Gilberto Chateaubriand collection); MAC-Niterói and Pinacoteca de São Paulo.
