“The rectangular shape printed in black, created by means of plastic mass applied to a rigid support, generates textures and reliefs. In these works I rely on visual weight, reinforced by the relief that the technique provides and by the large white area of the paper left intact. While one work stretches the eye to the sides, the other stretches downwards. What is used here is the possibility in engraving of obtaining multiple copies from the same matrix. This can be added to other matrices, receive manual intervention after printing, be printed in another color, inverted and much more.”

Biography
Celia Euvaldo
She began her work as an artist in the mid-1980s. In her early years, the artist mainly explored drawing on paper, until the end of the 1990s. Since then, painting has become her main means of expression, dealing exclusively with black and white, to which, more recently, she has added a few other colors.
His first solo exhibitions were at the Macunaíma Gallery (Funarte, Rio de Janeiro, 1988), the Museum of Contemporary Art (São Paulo, 1989) and the São Paulo Cultural Center (1989). Also in 1989, he won the 1st Prize at the National Visual Arts Salon at Funarte. Since then, he has exhibited regularly in solo and group shows in galleries and institutions. He participated, notably, in the 7th International Painting Biennial of Cuenca, Ecuador (2001) and the 5th Mercosul Biennial (2005). He has held solo exhibitions, among others, at the Paço Imperial (Rio de Janeiro, 1995, 1999 and 2015/16), at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (2006), at the Maria Antonia Cultural Center (São Paulo, 2003 and 2010), at the Engraving Museum of the City of Curitiba (2011) and at the Tomie Ohtake Institute (São Paulo, 2013).
In 2016, he participated in the group show Cut, Folded, Pressed & Other Actions at the David Zwirner Gallery in New York. In 2017, he held solo exhibitions in Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Ribeirão Preto, in 2018 at Galeria Raquel Arnaud in São Paulo, in 2020 at Galeria Simões de Assis in Curitiba, and in 2022 at Galeria Roberto Alban in Salvador.
