This work deals directly with beliefs and superstitions that the seven herbs bring protection and ladybugs, luck and happiness. Piva does not believe that these elements have a “magical” power, but rather that they are catalytic elements, capable of bringing out feelings of protection, hope and well-being. Feelings that we carry with us and that, sometimes, just need a little help to emerge.
Biography
Mauro Piva
Mauro Piva holds a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from FAAP (SP) and develops works that move between drawing, painting, and sculpture. From the beginning of his career, his practice has been permeated by questions of identity/non-identity, daily life, existentialism, affection, and homage, marking his artistic approach. Initially focused on the representation of the human figure, Piva began to incorporate plants and flowers into his work, gradually replacing bodies. Everyday elements, especially those related to the workspace in the studio, also began to integrate his production, creating open visual narratives that invite the viewer to personal interpretation. Although his meticulous technique may suggest hyperrealism, the artist emphasizes that he does not seek fidelity to reality, but plays with stereotypes, representation, and recognition, proposing a visual game that makes explicit the pictorial or sculptural nature of his creations.
Since 1999, Mauro Piva has held solo and group exhibitions in Brazil and abroad. In 2024, he presented a solo exhibition at Galeria Verve in São Paulo, showcasing paintings and sculptures accompanied by critical text by Ana Carolina Ralston. His works have also been exhibited at international fairs, such as ARCO Madrid, represented by Galeria Espacio Mínimo, and Zona Maco, by Galeria Enrique Guerrero, in Mexico City.
His work is present in important collections, such as MAM-SP, MAC-SP, MAM-RJ, MAR-RJ, MAM-BA, Museu da Gravura de Curitiba and Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz, in Brazil, and Art at Swiss Re (Switzerland), Art C Batter Hugo Voateng (Belgium), Maxine and Stuart Frankel (USA) and JP Morgan (USA). In 2015, a monograph on his work was published by Editora Cobogó, with text by Marcos Moraes.
